Looking every bit the oddity that it was, the 1975 Hercules W2000 was powered by a Wankel (rotary) motor. Not a new company, the German concern; Hercules Company, dates back to 1888.

In 1974 Hercules was the first motorcycle company to offer a rotary engine to the motorcycling public. Alas, the bike was never well loved, partially because of the maintenance, but mostly because of it’s lack of performance. The W2000 had a single rotor motor, produced only 23hp from 294cc. The Wankel patent owners (not Hercules) restricted the size of the motor and Hercules was limited in the size of the motor that could be used. It stymied the progression of the model.

I say it looked like a bicycle that ran over a vacuum cleaner– but they are certainly rare. Only 500 were made. Not a bike that would ingratiate you with the Harley crowd (are you really going to impress them with your “Wankel” tattoo?) this bike makes no appreciable exhaust noise.

Part of the reason for the loud Harley exhaust note is “prevention”. As in, preventing others from running broadside into you. The hope is that sound makes others aware. Not so with the Wankel – they’ll never hear you coming.

More of an oddity than a pleasure bike, this wheezer never took hold. Due to the size and shape of the motor, handling was questionable to boot. You couldn’t lean the bike very far into corners without scraping the finish off of the vaccum cleaner.

The Suzuki RE5 was another attempt to put a rotary motor in a motorcycle. Ironically also introduced in 1974, it too failed. Like the Hercules W2000, it is destined to be collectible also.

I’ve attached a scan from the original factory picture.

Today, they are impossible to find. Have you seen one? We’ve been lucky enough to add one to the collection. What it’s worth, we can’t say, but once restored she’ll be a great showpiece. At least she’ll be quiet.

As often as we get caught up on the "bad seeds" of the scene, there are many good people that simply love cars. Last year I met a car loving family man named Mike Davila when he rode out to California for the Annual Eibach meet with his friend Ray Briones. Mike's loyal wife supported his hobby enough to take the 14 hour ride from Texas with them all. Mike and his wife left a lasting impression on me. Mike and I kept in touch over the following year, talking about his build and daily life. During an online conversation Mike told me he was going to finish his car bring it to California for the 2012 Eibach Meet, I honestly wasn't too sure if I'd see him again because the car didn't seem like it would be done in time but to my surprise the guy pulled through and made it to California to visit and attend the meet.
This video is the result of a lot of hard work, dedication, love and support for a hobby that brings people together while living an "AutoLife".

This is one of the most unusual motorcycles I’ve seen in a long time: it’s a ‘Killinger und Freund’ built in 1935 in Munich, Germany. The art deco styling is obviously eye-catching, but it’s hiding something even more interesting: this machine has a driven front wheel, like the Rokon. And underneath that huge front fender is the engine itself. The motor is a sizeable 600 cc two-stroke triple—or perhaps three one-cylinder engines joined together. Yet the bike was reportedly very light, at just 135 kg. There’s obviously a story behind this picture too: is the soldier an American who found the bike in the dying days of the war, and posed for a picture taken by a colleague? The Allies rolled into Munich on 30 April 1945, and Wikipedia reports “One motorcycle was discovered by the US Army in the spring of 1945 at a German military installation, but it is not known if this was the original prototype or another Killinger und Freund Motorrad.” If you can cast any further light on this oddity, please let us know. Full-sized Porsche 917 replica that conceals a 1:32-scale working wooden slot car track faithful to the iconic Le Mans raceway. Painted in the same color scheme and #20 race number—an homage to the classic 1971 movie starring Steve McQueen—the 917 has genuine race-worn GT prototype tires on aluminum three-piece rims and working headlights and taillights. The precisely molded replica cowling opens like a clamshell at the touch of a button to reveal the track within. Resplendent in its handcrafted detail, the raceway is built with realistic landscaping and includes period signage illuminated by working streetlights: the Esso Oil Drop Man near the Ford chicane, the Marchal sign on the famous three-level grandstand over pit row, the Martini barn, and the unmistakable Dunlop "tire" bridge. Hand-detailed aluminum Armco guardrails with weathered wooden posts convey additional realism. Dual analog racing controllers provide precise control for the 12 included limited-edition slot cars, including the dominant racing models from 1970-1971, painted in authentic period livery: a Porsche 917, Ferrari 512 Coda Lunga, and Lola T70. Plugs into AC. Only $125,000 !

This 1931 Ford Model 68B cabriolet convertible couple is an extremely scarce Montana mail carrier car ready to find a home in a private collection or museum. The car is one of two custom-built in Glendive, Montana in 1941 in order to maneuver in deep snow drifts. The oversized wide tires accomplished floatation and enabled the mail car to drive over deep snow. Much special work went into modifying the fenders and chassis to fit the 24" rims with 11.2" X 24" Goodyear diamond tread tractor tires. The car uses a Model TT truck differential which is geared lower to work with the oversized tires. The body is excellent and the car runs and drives. This is truly a one-of-a-kind time capsule survivor car and a must for any private collector or museum that desires to own very unique vehicles. Please call Steve Murphy at (406) 565-5277 for details about this unique vintage all-original 31 A Cabriolet mail carrier car. For sale $58,000.

Terror Tractor... A few creative gents managed to shove a turbocharged gasoline Volvo B21ET four cylinder from an overseas 240 in the nose of a tractor. They call it the "Terror Tractor," which, by some odd twist of the universe, is also the name of a passable metal band from Manhattan, Kansas. In stock form, the engine made around 157 horsepower, which is simply ludicrous by the mightily-geared standards of the tractor world.

The creation picks up its peasant skirt and hustles with a hurry, slinging sod and leaving the driver to hold on for dear life. It also does incredible burnouts, sending those pricey bar tires smoking with the drop of a clutch. Yes friends, this is our type of awesome.

Soon after the first automobiles were built, a whole new industry was launched, the after market for automotive accessories and parts. Many inventors turned their attention to dreaming up ways to bring a car related product to the market and cash in.

One such area of the accessory market that easily had hundreds of different types introduced, was the turn signal. Some like the photo above were more complex and in addition to signaling turns, would also allow the driver to show that they were going to slow or stop. The photo of a signal (above) by an unknown inventor, appears to have had different sign panels that the driver could use to signal their intention. This signal appears to have been activated by rotary motion of the knob on the right hand side of the device. Photo courtesy of Benjamin Ames.
