When I was growing up, my father Russ was a Navy fighter pilot, and his daily drive was a Jaguar E-Type. I remember the day he got it. I was 10 years old. I didn't realize at the time that the car was probably worth a third of the price of the house we were living in.

On Sundays, we'd take the car to church, and my favorite memories are of going to the races, back during sports car racing's golden age. Those memories you can relive over and over.

When I was in college, the car fell into disrepair; it spent years covered up in the backyard, until 1981. By then, .38 Special was starting to sell a lot of records. I said, "Dad, I want to make the car right." He said, "It was going to be yours anyway. Have at it!"

I had a two-year restoration done in Atlanta, during which I watched the car come back to life. It was a $30,000 job in 1983 dollars. I'll never forget the day I got it back. I called my Dad in Jacksonville [Fla.] and said, "Your car is ready." He hopped on a plane and came to Atlanta. It'd been 14 years since he'd driven it.

My dad has passed, but my mom is still alive. She always asks, "How's the Jag?" "Just fine, Mom. It's just fine."

Autobahn is the fourth studio album by German electronic band Kraftwerk, released in November 1974. The 22-minute title track "Autobahn" was edited to 3:27 for single release and reached number 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 22 in the Australian chart, and performed even higher around Europe, including number 11 in the UK and number 12 in the Netherlands.
