Yes—it was a prewar German experiment as I recall. I would have to hunt a little for information. Later, in the early 60’s, the NYC railroad mounted a jet engine on an American passenger rail car, and accelerated it to a speed of 150 mph in a matter of a couple minutes. That was more for a publicity stunt than a serious experimentation.
