In part I agree. While I do see the need for switching away from conventional fossil fuels for propelling our vehicles, hybrid batteries as they are manufactured today are far from green. I read a recent study that looked into the lifecyle assessment of a hybrid vehicle and it takes somewhere around 100,000 miles of driving for a hybrid to have a lower carbon footprint than a conventional internal combustion engine. This is due to the huge amount of embodied energy (not to mention rare earth minerals) required for the production of each cell. That is why it is so critical to focus on demand side reduction (by reducing vehicle weight and drag) before trying to solve the supply side issues by changing the power train to electric. A 2-ton hybrid SUV is not a step in the right direction...
