Google's new robot car: Crazy good or crazy crazy?

Google is testing self-driving cars, claiming that this will help prevent road fatalities. But will it only be effective if everyone is driving a self-driving car? And what kind of world would that be?

I read about this a while back, and from their initial tests, the car seems to be accident "proof" even with human drivers on the road all around them. Actually, the one time it did get into an accident was when the driver over rid the autopilot and had control of the wheel himself...

You know, we already have ways that you can get around without driving yourself, it's called PUBLIC TRANSPORT. Not only do you not have to drive, but you also don't have to buy a car and buy gas, and its better for the environment.

Enjoy the bus gentlemen, I'll gladly welcome the extra room on the freeway

While I'll be damned before I let the government give my steering wheel to a robot, I'm all for having it as an option in yours! Since teens these days cant chose between texting and driving, I'll feel that much more comfortable when their car can steer so they can LOL and OMG with their friends

Hear hear! If you don't want to drive yourself, take the bus. The license plate is right, we are a bunch of smug, privileged assholes to buy our own little pods to be driven around in to avoid mingling with other people.

I take offense at this license plate. Why is anyone who cares about the environment and saving fuel considered "smug?" It's such a typical American bully attitude. It's the same as all the jocks in high school picking on someone for being smart. Why would you make fun of that? I think it's pretty reflective of the current state of America and how we're viewed- full of self confidence and bravado, but no brain.
