Indy team preps for first day practice sessions May 10. They require a track temperature of 70 something and ambient around 52 and the weather just barely cooperated.

I don't know enough about Indy to say for sure, but I'd guess it's driven by the need for sticky tires. If the track gets too cold they'll go sliding right off the asphalt at those speeds
