He’s no Charles Lindbergh and that’s not a Ryan Monoplane. It’s “The Golf Specialist” himself, W.C. Fields, playing a difficult lie off the cowl of his customized American Austin in this studio publicity shot from the 1933 Paramount comedy hit, “International House”. Co-starring in this bit of Depression era fluff were Bela Lugosi, George Burns, Gracie Allen, Stuart Erwin and Franklin Pangborn. More @ http://theoldmotor.com/?p=95708

Time to Clean the Crankcase on the Old Bus with a Norlite Cleaner:

Crank case and oil pan cleaning was one of the regular maintenance tasks that the motorist used to have to deal with often. It was not until the advent of modern full-flow oil filters and the use of detergent oils came about, along with the development modern piston rings that kept the by-products of combustion out of the crankcase, that this job became a thing of the past.

L.D. Taylor is seen here posing with a 1927 Packard, 4th Series Six Sedan, a Norlite Crankcase cleaning machine to his right and a can of Norlite motor oil on his left. The oil appears to have been be refined by a Vancouver, B.C. company from California crude oil that was shipped up the West Coast and marketed locally and this may have been a press photo to promote the brand. The Futurliners and the GM Parade of Progress: They were once wonders of the automotive world. The public had never seen anything quite like them when they first saw the light of day in 1941. They were GM’s Futurliners and they held out a promise of brighter days to come. The arrival of the fleet of twelve of these second generation vans and their support vehicles in small town America was much akin to the circus coming to town, and the show that the intrepid “Paraders” put on drove the point home.
