Napier "Art Deco City" poster campaign Posters.
Napier City, New Zealand, destroyed in 1931 by a powerful earthquake, was completely rebuilt in the style of the time, which happened to be Art Deco. It is one of the world’s foremost Art Deco cities and arguably the most pristine. The Napier City Council wanted to create a distinct image for itself and to claim ownership of the “Art Deco City” moniker—important to them, as some 50 cruise ships visit each summer. New Zealand’s Adplus Communications created clear signage and posters in the Art Deco-style to advertise the city boundary as well as notable areas—the port, airport and keys roads into the city. Steve Rawlinson, art director; Stephen Fuller, illustrator.

A 1937 Terraplane convertible was certainly a good poster choice. Bucket list: visit Napier.
