A few months ago, David Brown made public his intention to produce a classically styled GT car with modern underpinnings. His company has now unveiled the ‘Speedback’ – and Classic Driver has been given the full story…
“I first had the idea while on a classic car rally in Spain a few years ago,” David tells Classic Driver. “Towards the end, we were all so tired of the cars' demanding characteristics and tendency to break down that everyone was asking to drive the cheap hire car brought along as back-up.” David, who is no relation to the legendary Aston Martin figurehead, found success in construction equipment and trucks after taking the reins of his father’s company. “This won’t be the first time there’s been confusion about the name: my father was building tractors at the same time as Sir David,” says the Yorkshireman. The Snow Cruiser built in 1939 for Admiral Richard E. Byrd's third Antarctic Expedition was designed to carry a crew and supplies to last for a year of exploration. Plus a plane for making observations. Cool. The Snow Cruiser was over 55 ft long, 16 ft high and nearly 20 ft wide. It was powered by two six-cylinder Cummins diesel engines generating power to drive a 150 hp General Electric motor located in the hub of each wheel. The special Goodyear tires stood ten feet tall. The Snow Cruiser was built for Byrd by the Pullman Standard rail car company in Chicago. The Snow Cruiser was so large that the only way it could be transported from Chicago to Boston, where Byrd's expedition and gear were loaded onto the ship North Star, was to be driven on two lane highways. The hybrid drive train claimed a range of 5,000 miles! But the Cruiser was driven only 92 miles in the Antarctic before becoming bogged down.

Supercar owners living in an exclusive high-rise apartment block can now park their beloved motors from their - LIVING ROOMS. Hamilton Parks in Singapore is a brand-new 30-storey development where flats cost between £6 and £15 MILLION. But with parking in the city limited, the skyscraper designer came up with an innovative way of parking some of the planets fastest cars. Residents simply drive their 200mph motors into a biometrically-controlled lift at the base of Hamilton Parks on the city's swanky Orchard Road.

Thunderbowl Comet (aka Golden Eagle), a faux land speed record car made for the 1936 movie "Speed" starring James Stewart. Tremulis and his brother-in-law (and Gyronaut crew member), Pete Politis, went to check out the car in Acton, Ca where it resided as a tourist attraction. Powered by a front wheel drive Cord L-29 drivetrain, the car is currently being restored to its former celluloid glory.

Como is a great place to decompress and ease into the Italian scene but what better way to supercharge your Italian Car Guy experience than to go to the Monza F1 race.
From your cozy hotel in Como you will take the train directly to the Monza stop and transfer via bus or taxi to the track. It’s a very civilized 35 minute ride. The trains run every 30 minutes.
The price of the Tour includes great grandstand seats. The tickets are good for three days if you are really into the racing. Besides F1 cars they race Porsches and other GT cars.
Sunday is the big race and if Ferrari wins Italy goes into mass hysteria with horns honking and noise makers blasting. It is quite a thing to watch.
Off To Milano.
Monday morning our bus arrives and at 8:57AM sharp we depart Lake Como and head to Milano. Once there, our first of four stops will include the amazing Zagato Centro Stile Design Center, then on to Touring Design Center, Borrani Wire Wheels Factory and the Alfa Romeo “Blue Team” Collection.
Off to Turin.
Then it is off to Turin and 3 nights at the beautiful 5 star Principe di Piemonte Hotel in the upscale center of Turin where the marble and cherry wood will engulf you to the point where you won’t want to leave.
September is one of the most beautiful months to be in Italy; the sidewalk cafes are bustling, the olives and grapes bursting with flavor, the flowers are in full bloom, and the number of tourists are at a lower level.
The Tour is limited to 26 seats. So don't delay. The last 4 years have sold out and this year will sell out as well. Half of the seats are already spoken for. Reserve Now!
Price includes, Hotels, Breakfast, Deluxe bus, Jacket, Hat and name badge, all visits and Tour Guide. My Bio at http://www.carguytour.com/bio.php.

Do you remember the days when turbo-charged, four-cylinder, boxer-engine-powered, all-wheel-drive rally machines would effortlessly rumble, sputter and pop their way through dirt, tarmac, water and snow, usually doing so while sideways, in mid-air and at times a combination of the two? Wait, hold on a second, a four cylinder boxer engine? Yes, I’m talking about Subaru. Specifically, I'm talking about the glory days of Subaru when they still competed in the WRC (or, the World Rally Championship). However, those glory days may yet again arise, because despite the ever-changing rules in WRC, Subaru has decided they’re going to release a new model that may very well be able to fit the picky FIA requirements and thus compete in the WRC once again.

As the Saab story is facing some dark times, we thought it was a good time to look back at where this story began. In 1947, the Swedish aircraft manufacturer Saab revealed a prototype that would bring their manufacturing know-how out of the skies and onto the roads of Europe. This prototype was 1946 Saab 92001 Ursaab, a car with such unusual, aircraft-inspired styling that it appeared like nothing else on the road.
The 1946 Saab 92001 Ursaab was a car built by 16 aircraft engineers — only two of them having drivers licenses — with none of them having any automotive experience. The result, however, was a surprising success. In secret testing, the Saab team drove this car nearly 330,000 miles on back roads in Sweden both late at night and early in the morning. This vehicle became the inspiration for the Saab 92, which began production in the late 1940s, as well as many of the future Saab models. The Saab 92001 was the “ursaab”, or the “Original Saab”, a car that in itself explains the company slogan “born from jets”.
The 1946 Saab 92001 Ursaab now rests in the Saab Museum in Trollhättan, Sweden. 54 years later, the fate of Saab is being decided by its owner, GM, and the potential suitors who wish to take over this brand and its unusual legacy.

There are a lot of things that Chief Keef doesn't like but, according to his Instagram, cars aren't one of them. His love for cars is shown in nearly every photo on his ChieffKeeffSossa account. From his Bentley to his Porsche, Chief Sosa loves poses in his car alone, with his #squad, and of course, with a blunt in his hand. He's been kicked off Instagram twice but that hasn't stopped him yet. Here are 70 of the best rides photos on Chief Keef's Instagram. Bang, bang!

One of our most popular world records over recent years has been the hotly contested tightest parallel parking title.
The record has changed hands five times in the past two years, with our video of German driving ace Ronny Wechselberger 's successful attempt last year becoming something of an internet sensation with viewing figures hitting the millions.
When Patrik Folco neatly slid his way into a gap measuring just 22 cm (8.66 in) longer than the car he was driving last month it set a benchmark that looked unlikely to be broken.
However, the record has indeed once again been smashed , this time by Chinese master wheelman Han Yue.
Han last week managed to shave off an incredible 7cm from the record, drifting into a space of just 15 cm (5.91 in) longer than his vehicle during an attempt at the launch in Beijing of a new special edition of the Mini called The Chinese Job.

Bad drivers in Portland! It would be a great time for Alice Cooper...but someone stole my Alice Cooper Greatest Hits CD in middle school...so no "School's Out for Summer"...today at least. Even though today (Mon, Jun 11) was in fact the last day of school. Technically we have school tomorrow, but it's just a day where we get to blow the tax payer's money and play around in the rain at Silver Falls. I just love June in Oregon...rain...freakin' all the time.
Today also marks the 40th anniversary of the Bad Drivers in Portland series!! This summer is looking a little bid odd for video uploads. Every ten days, I'm with my mom. The other ten days I'm with my dad. On days with my dad I'll have one brother to watch, and probably won't do a ton of driving. Probably still a little though.
On the ten days with my mom, I'll have 3 brothers. And we live in a tiny condo (thank god they just put an offer down on a 5 bedroom house!) so there will probably be an incredible amount of goofing off and driving. Maybe we feel like going to the beach...the zoo...the mountain...the river...the lake....the rain forest....the desert. All of these things are less than an hour and half from Portland! What I think will end up happening is that I'll get about twice the amount of clips I need for a video at my moms...and a little less than I need for a whole video at my dads. So what will probably end up happening is clips won't be very chronologically organized, but I should still have a good video up per week. Worst case scenario, I post one every two weeks. Or a shorter video every week? Leave your thoughts about that in the comments' page.
Moving on...This week involved be being nice! Well...a little anyway. I didn't use my horn a whole ton (little beeps here and there though, probably still near the number I use it on a regular basis) but only laid on it for the dumbass who decided to pull a U-turn immediately after pulling onto a side-road. I nearly hit them - the car behind me very nearly hit me - and there was a near-pileup on the main road because the car behind me stopped with his ass sticking out. There was skidding, though the camera did not catch that for some reason (I would get a rear-cam, but they are expensive).
Lots of other people honking too (in fact it might have outweighed mine)...couple I had to look closely to figure out what was going on.
So yeah....enjoy! Happy 40th to you all!
