Bugatti was a storied marque in the prewar years winning GPs throughout Europe in the hands of privateers and pros alike. Today, one of the few marques successfully revived to a new audience of go-fast gear heads.

You're right about the marque's current German status. It took a company the size, engineering talent, and war chest of cash of VW to make the Veyron a reality.
