1997 Talbo S-1 Teardrop Coupe
PRICE ON APPLICATION
The stuff of dreams: 1937-38 Talbot-Lago "Teardrop" coupe is unmistakable both in style and substance. Today, the 11 in existence are valued at over $4 Million.
Which brings us to my latest offering—the 1997 Talbo S-1—a precise recreation challenging the harshest critics of "replicas." In fact, a number of these grace the collections of discerning enthusiasts the world over. Let me explain.
In 1990, George Balschak founded TLC Carrossiers, Inc. to build the ultimate tribute of the Talbot Teardrop T150-C SS by Figoni & Falaschi. His source was an original Talbot owned by noted industrial stylist Brooks Stevens. Precise CAD readings lead to the fabrication of an exact—and I mean exact—duplicate. No bloated wheels wells, not fat trunk, no altered proportions. The Palm Beach Gardens, FL company went on to construct just 21 hand-built "Talbo" vehicles comprising two distinct series.
Our first-series example dates from 1997 and is the 14th made. This car is finished in maroon, has a complementary tan leather interior and the entire car is set off by 16-in. wire wheels with stainless steel spokes. It is also the last Talbo to have the 5.0L Mustang engine and Ford AOD automatic overdrive transmission.
The jaw-dropping shape covers a modern rust proofed tubular chassis with all-around independent suspension, disc brakes and rack-and-pinion steering. The exhaust system is stainless steel using four catalytic converters and Borla mufflers. The spare wheel is stored underneath the rear deck. Exterior paint is the highest quality urethane by Glasurit.
Leather bucket seats feature six-way power-adjustable controls made especially for the Talbo. The stunning engine turned stainless steel dash fascia and corresponding instruments are also custom-made to the original French gauge style. Beautiful custom mahogany wood trim sets off the comfortable cabin. Options include AC and heat, tilt-steering wheel, power locks and windows, stereo CD sound system and a remote alarm system. There is ample storage space behind the seats.
This coveted Talbo S-1 has been kept in a climate-controlled storage facility by its Massachusetts owner since 2015, and appears as-new throughout.
No mere kit car or half-hearted replica, our 1997 Talbo S-1 is a world-class automobile in its own right. It offers incredible comfort, phenomenal performance, and of course—those killer curves!
Today, the revered Talbo recreations are found in high-end collections as an alternative to vehicles too precious and valuable for daily use.
Perhaps only once in a decade where a Talbo comes to market. Finished in the most desirable color combination, bullet-proof drive train, a host of options and guaranteed VIP parking at a country club near you!
