For a bunch of years I have used an old temperature gauge to test thermostats and coolant temps. I figured it was time to upgrade with this economical palm-grip digital temp gauge with 1.5 ft. probe. $35 from McMaster-Carr. http://www.mcmaster.com/#9264t11ac/=nc05qm

Update: Works like a charm. Three buttons and no more. Easy to calibrate and nice to have a length of cord so you can drop probe into rad neck and lay device out of harm's way. The bad news, car running wicked cold despite 88 H+H weather so out comes the thermostat for a re calibration (bellows style). Who ever heard of an antique car that runs cold!
