Most of us have the usual wrenches, air tools, and maybe a drill press and grinder. Next comes the basic metal lathe which is indispensible for maching new parts or fixing old ones. This early film shows how it's done. Used lathes can be bought on eBay for a few hundred bucks.

I felt the same way until a elderly gent in my hometown taught me the way. Having a good running lathe can make all the difference to reducing resto costs to bringing a great deal of satisfaction you did it yourself. Get a South Bend "Heavy 10" or 12.
