2002 Mercedes CLK-GTR - 1 of 6 ever made.

Price: INQUIRE, (but if you have to ask....)

When the words 'rare supercar' get thrown around it's easy to think of cars like the Bugatti Veyron or the Ferrari Enzo. However name almost any supercar and more than likely it wouldn't be as rare as this Mercedes CLK GTR Roadster. This limited edition 1 of 6 CLK GTR Roadster is capable of pushing the 200MPH barrier features an incredible look and is amazingly fun to drive.

To better understand how this incredibly rare supercar came to exist we have to take a step back to 1997. The newly formed BPR Global GT Series had attracted so much interest from manufacturers like Porsche and Panoz that the FIA decided to take over the reins to the series. Although this meant the end of the BPR it also meant the first year for the newly formed FIA GT Championship.

Mercedes-Benz saw this as an excellent platform to compete against Porsche and BMW in a supercar grudge match. Mercedes had AMG start to design and build an intense racing machine. The result was a purpose built racing vehicle called the Mercedes CLK GTR. The results on the track were seen almost instantly. In 1997 The Mercedes team captured six of the eleven checkered flags on their way to not only the driver's championship but also the manufacturer's crown. And in 1998 the Mercedes CLK teams dominated the series winning all ten events in the series and once again claiming the driver's and manufacturer's championship.

To fulfill the FIA requirements Mercedes was required to build a minimum of 25 road versions of their CLK GTR race car. With the initial CLK GTR coupe produced in 1998 Mercedes and AMG specialist group H.W.A made a total of 26 CLK GTRs. With only 26 in existence the Mercedes CLK GTR is one of the most sought after super cars ever produced. However when you breakdown the numbers you get a clear indication just how rare this CLK GTR Roadster really is.

The first 20 were produced as intense coupe versions. For the final six H.W.A shed the roof to design a Roadster version. The CLK GTR Roadster is easily one of the rarest modern day supercars ever produced and is one of the most sought after supercars from collectors.

Chassis #3 of the very rarely seen 6 this CLK GTR Roadster is one of the most incredible looking machines we have ever seen. The amazingly aggressive look starts with an incredible carbon fiber silver exterior with motorsports inspired touches throughout. The motorsports background of the CLK GTR led to a carbon fiber splitter at the bottom of the front end a massive carbon fiber rear spoiler and a carbon fiber rear diffuser. Above the front splitter a massive Mercedes-Benz logo is centered in the chrome grill and flanked by four headlights. The curves throughout the body give the CLK GTR Roadster an amazing look. Beyond the motorsports technology that was incorporated into the vehicle the CLK GTR also features a fully integrated steel roll cage that protects the driver and passenger.

Lift the back of the fiberglass body off the car and you'll find the incredible power plant that is capable of pushing the CLK GTR Roadster to nearly 200MPH. Right behind the driver and passenger sits a 6.9L V12 that pumps out an incredible 604hp and 572 lb./ft. of torque. The Roadster is capable of a 0-60MPH in just 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 199MPH. Bolted to the V12 is a 6-speed sequential paddle-shifter transmission. Spent gasses travel out of the dual exhausts that exit out of the rear bumper.
Lift the silver hood and you'll reveal the front suspension that is made up of double wishbone with push-rod actuated coil springs shock absorbers and the front anti-roll bar. You'll also see the Aluminum Honeycomb Tub Chassis. Make your way to the back of the car and see that the rear suspension utilizes the same double wishbone suspension. The CLK GTR Roadster sits on custom 23-spoke AMG 18-inch aluminum rims that have been wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport rubber. Behind the rims are the 4-wheel carbon fiber disc brakes that are equipped with AP calipers.

Inside the interior is a blend of business and pleasure. While the two-tone leather interior does have amenities like air conditioning power steering and some storage; the cockpit inspired interior still points to its motorsports background. Lift open the driver's side door and you'll reveal a carbon fiber storage component to the left of the driver's seat that has been attached with a plaque that reads ''AMG CLK GTR Roadster Limited Edition #3''. In front of the black and cream two-tone leather driver's seat is the leather clad steering wheel which is fully equipped with an integrated airbag. In front of the steering wheel is a bespoke instrument cluster. Making this supercar even more fun to drive is the aforementioned paddle shifters on either side of the steering wheel that ensure your hands never have to leave the wheel. Each seat has been equipped with a 4-point harness for added safety. Between the two seats is another plaque designating the rarity of this vehicle.

What's even more incredible about this CLK Roadster is the fact that it only has 72 original miles (116 km) on the vehicle. To ensure that the CLK is in perfect condition two team members that were on the original build recently fully serviced the car.
The Roadster amazingly is emission compliant and titled for public street use. With an incredible look winning background in motorsports and incredible amounts of power this rare gem could easily be the premier car of any collection.

With a winning history in the motorsports industry the street and race versions of the Mercedes CLK GTR are incredible machines. However Mercedes AMG and H.W.A really out did themselves with the GTR Roadster. This vehicle is one that has to be seen in person to truly appreciate. Stop by our showroom and see the GTR Roadster in person to see just how magnificent this ride really is.

Which would you choose? Even though I know it's not the best performing Ferrari, I always had a soft spot for the Testarossa. I only see one in the back, in yellow. Gotta be red for me though.
