Photos like these don’t need words.
Last week we brought you some pretty terrifying footage of the huge Porsche 911 and Formula Ford stacks that took place during the Phillip Island Classic.
This sequence of photos gives you an idea of how things looked trackside when Bryan Taylor and his ’77 Porsche 911 collided with a spinning car and took off.
We’re happy to confirm that Bryan came through slightly battered, but uninjured.

The season opening cruise of American Cars in Estonia took place in Tallinn on the 4th of May. It was an awesome event since the amount of cars was a lot more than last year and the whole event was arranged very well. We began the cruise from a large parking lot at Ülemiste and cruised through the city finally reaching Rocca Al Mare parking lot. Since the Corvette was totally out of service then, we decided to take my girlfriend’s K5 Blazer and we got several compliments on that truck. As always, we stayed together most of the time with the Corvette Club of Estonia and used the club flag on our truck.

Saw this lady on the side of the highway in a big Lincoln towncar and people just passing her up. She had a flat and she forgot her cellphone at home. Wouldn't want that if that was my grandmother so I made a U-turn to go see about her. She asked me if I had a cell phone and I asked her if I could change her tire. She obliged. Those tight lugs gave me hell while the sun was beating on my head but God! I then followed her to the nearest gas station and aired up her spare because it was low too from sitting unused in the trunk. She was very grateful and forced me to take her $20 bill. She also happens to be friends with one of the multi-millionaire contractors I work for. She asked my name and said she was going to write a letter to him about me. See people, not every black dude in New Orleans wearing a white t-shirt is a threat...some of us might actually be your angel! #judgenot — with darius rucker.

If you think that EVs are new-fangled rubbish, it'll serve you well to listen up. Five years before Karl Benz patented his original horseless carriage, messers. William Ayrton and John Perry engineered the electrically-powered Starley Tricycle. Germany's Autovision Museum spent around a year building a fully working replica of this transportation sensation of the 1880s. Considering the 130-year-old nature of the technology, the vehicle turned out to be very comfortable, super-quiet and fast: it'll top out at a respectable eight miles per hour, with a range of around 25 miles. After the break you'll be able to see the machine in action. No word on if the museum will produce any more in time for Christmas, but it would certainly be a hit with the steampunk commuter crowd.

The Porsche 356 Speedster and Porche 550 Spyder are some of the most iconic sports cars of all time, minimalist design and racing pedigree making their mark -- and of course James Dean losing his life in a Spyder certainly helped it to gain some notoriety. Restored models go for hundreds of thousands of dollars, but the one you're looking at above goes for much less. It's a replica made by California company Euromasters, and it's all-electric. Specs on that plus the Spyder replica are identical, including 120hp motors, top speed of over 100mph, a range of over 200 miles, and 0 - 60 in a very brisk 5.6 seconds -- almost four seconds faster than an original road-going 356. The Speedster was unveiled at the LA Auto Show late last year and both it and the Spyder are now up for order. $49,900 if you want the Speedster, another $5,000 if you want the James Dean Edition Spyder. Just be careful if you get one: we doubt these Little Bastards are much safer in a crash than the originals.

Filling station and garage at Pie Town, New Mexico. Photograph by Russell Lee. September 1940. "Original owner sold pies, hence the name 'Pie Town.'" Wikipedia says that person was Clyde Norman, who started a dehydrated apple business there in the 1920s. Pie Town hosts a Pie Festival in the fall; photographer Lee took dozens of pictures of the 1940 rodeo and barbecue, which we'll be posting. Here we can see details of the the 1940 fair, and that gas was 21 cents a gallon.

Herbert von Karajan 5 April 1908 – 16 July 1989 was an Austrian orchestra and opera conductor. To the wider world he was perhaps most famously associated with the Berlin Philharmonic, of which he was principal conductor for 35 years. Although his work was not universally admired, he is generally considered to have been one of the greatest conductors of all time, and he was a dominant figure in European classical music from the 1960s until his death.

Tis the Season -for Santa to go Really Fast apparently
Wondering how Santa Claus keeps up with the demanding schedule of Christmas Eve delivery? Yeah, so was I.
His sled (no pun intended) seemed a little old and ratty last time I saw it perched on my neighbor's rooftop. Sure, Santa tried to keep up, adding a new rocket booster, affixing under sleigh body panels to reduce drag, the reindeer even wore spandex to cheat the wind last year. He made other adjustments, here and there. He even tried running the sleigh on vegetable oil. Green is Christmas color after all.
Wisely though, Santa realized that kids today have an advantage that his generation didn't have - texting. Seems the naughty on his list were texting their other naughty friends Santa's exact location and time of approximate departure. Then the paparazzi's got involved. Who doesn't want a picture of the "real" Santa? It must be worth quite a sackful to the Daily Herald, don't you think? Santa starting running behind avoiding these unfortunate delays.
So crafty Santa headed over to Hennessey Performance. His requests were simply - make it red, make it fast but roomy and make it four wheel drive. The reindeer, well they are getting tired, Santa confided. The new deer in training, it seems, are slackers - smart, just not motivated. So says Mrs. Clause.
Hennessey had just the solution. The new 2013 Hennessey Grand Cherokee HPE800. After Mrs. Clause hit him with the defibrillator, he agreed to the purchase. Santa had a small grabber once he heard the price - $235,000. Holy Christmas he shouted!!
One drive in the new sleigh sealed the deal though. Santa loved the 0-60 spint of 3.1 seconds, the four wheel drive and the reworked transmission. His time to exit a rooftop now -considerably shortened. This power comes from 805 horsepower. Now, the ratio of reindeerpower to horsepower isn't exactly one for one. Roughly translated, each reindeer, with their special powers, produces the same output as 100 of those pesky horses. You know the reindeer, don't you? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and of course.....Rudolf! That's 9 in total. So in aggregate there is actually more horsepower from 9 reindeer. Had they all been 19 years of age, that is, but they aren't. Yeah, they too have four wheel drive too - but getting that power to the ground is harder. Their footprint, smaller.
So Santa has a new ride. And you can too - if you aren't on the naughty list and have and extra $235k sitting in your Christmas Saver Account.

After years of fighting for equality, European women will be finally getting equality, but it's not what they wanted. The European courts have ruled that lower motorcycle (and car) insurance for women is illegal and constitutes a discrimination; towards men.
So, starting the 21st of December 2012, women will be paying more for their insurance, some up to 40% more, bringing them to the same level as men. It doesn't matter that female riders are safer and have fewer accidents then men, it's a discrimination. So have ruled the courts.
IMHO, it also means that the courts should rule out higher insurance fees towards drunks, since that's discrimination as well...but then who am I? Not a scholar... I bet you the insurance companies are happy.

Release The Draguar! Building a Blown Jaguar Rat Rod. On this episode of Roadkill, Freiburger and Finnegan do unspeakable things to a '74 Jaguar XJ12, one of about 4,700 made. Namely, they cut a giant hole in the hood and install a Weiand 6-71 supercharger and twin Holley carburetors on the 350ci Chevy V8 that was already installed in the car when it was purchased for $1,000. But things can never be easy, so the supercharger installation is staged in the parking lot of Gotelli Speed Shop in South San Francisco. Then the duo hits the road, making their way to Sacramento Raceway, where they can finally unleash "The Draguar" at the strip.

Gene Middlebrooks called it the AP (for “Auxiliary Power”) supercharger. Visually it appeared to be a spiral turbo with a spark plug, and was engaged with a dash-mounted switch; a sort of prehistoric Nitrous setup. When the driver threw the switch, the supercharger unit would receive liquid oxygen for ignition, and then was fed a rocket fuel named “Thermolene,” Turbonique’s trade name for N-propyl nitrate. The exhaust thrust from combustion would spin a turbine impeller up to 100,000 RPM, ramming the engine with such intense boost that it literally turned it into a giant two-stroke. Turbonique dyno-tested an AP unit on a new Chevy 409 in 1963, increasing horsepower from a stock 405 to 835 — backing up their advertised guarantee to “double your horsepower” — although it came with a recommendation not to run the unit for more than 5 minutes, and only with forged cranks, pistons and connecting rods.
