1991 BMW M3 - $35,995
If you're any kind of auto enthusiast at all, you know all about BMW's M Division. Famous for tweaking their production cars into high-performance performance vehicles, the M cars have always been something special. Many BMW enthusiasts feel that the first-generation M3 was the purest of the M cars, with a dedicated 2.3-liter engine, race-grade suspension, and a no-nonsense demeanor. This particular 1991 BMW M3 shows just over 51,000 original miles, but given its condition, it may as well be only 5000 miles-it's immaculate! Only 4800 first-generation M3s were imported, and fewer than 10% were bright red. Beautifully maintained by two enthusiast owners, it looks fantastic. The M3 was a largely hand-built car and featured many unique parts, including flared fenders, deep chin spoiler and side skirts, and a wing on the rear deck. Bumpers were painted to match the body, along with the side mirrors, and if you wanted one, the only body style available was a 2-door sedan. The doors open and close with typical German precision, and there are no signs of accident damage or rust anywhere on the car. Minimalist luxury is probably the best way to describe the interior, which has all the features and amenities you'd expect from a high-end German car in 1991, but there's clearly an eye towards maximizing performance. The bolstered tan leather buckets grip you tightly, and the leather remains in excellent condition with only light signs of use, while the back seat looks like new. Matching tan carpets make the interior bright and airy, while a no-nonsense black dashboard is pure function. All the gauges work properly, the A/C blows cold, and a newer AM/FM/CD stereo system has been installed, replacing the aging cassette unit that was original equipment. The 5-speed manual transmission is one of the slicker gearboxes in motoring, and you'll find yourself downshifting just for the pleasure of it and to hear that race-bred engine sing its song. Speaking of the engine, the 2.3 liter inline-four cylinder was an all-new design just for the M3. With roots tracing back to the mighty M1, it's a near-race piece that loves to rev, and this is the only M3 model that was actively raced by the factory. With proper maintenance, these are indestructible engines, and the one in this red sedan runs beautifully. It zings through the rev range with gusto, and in the lightweight body, performance is still impressive, even in these days of 400 horsepower M3s. With superb balance, the chassis is the perfect dance partner, and the car's limits are quite high on the street. Four-wheel discs are standard, and live behind those gorgeous BBS alloys wearing Kumho performance radials. BMW fans know how special this car really is, and if you're looking for a fantastic early performance car, this M3 is hard to beat. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
